Penang, Malaysia

Loves: Playful street art that pops up unexpectedly as you turn a corner.

Our Advice: Stay along Chulia Street for proximity to many attractions in the day and popular hawker stalls at night.

Technically, Penang is not just an island as it consists of a strip of mainland along the west coast of Malaysia. However, most tourist activities are found on the island as that is where the capital of Penang state and a UNESCO World Heritage Site is – George Town.

With lots of amazing street art by Ernest Zacharevic and other artists scattered around George Town, it’s no wonder you can easily find a map just for the locations of these street art. Tracking down the street art may be fun, but there’s always a distraction – Penang street food.

Try as much food as you can and burn the calories exploring the streets of George Town or even stay a night at the nearby Batu Ferringhi beach.
